Five Core Engineering Modules

K-STONE coordinates cleanroom design across five engineering disciplines. The design basis starts with the intended process, room conditions, personnel and material flows, and the existing building. Each discipline must be reviewed against the agreed project scope.

1. Cleanroom Wall & Ceiling System (Architectural) – Modular panels, doors/windows, airtight joints, workflow zoning

2. HVAC System – Design criteria for temperature, humidity, airflow, filtration, and testing interfaces

3. Electrical System – Power distribution, lighting, grounding, and cable routing coordinated with equipment loads

4. Utility System – Process piping, water treatment, compressed air & gases, drainage

5. BMS & EMS System – Monitoring points, sensor interfaces, data logging, and alarm requirements

What to provide for a cleanroom design proposal

Share your site location, building drawings, intended process, equipment list, room requirements, utility availability, and target schedule. If the cleanroom classification or environmental criteria are not yet defined, identify them as open requirements for review. The proposal should confirm deliverables, responsibility boundaries, and exclusions before detailed design starts.

Cleanroom Design Deliverables

A design package should make the project requirements and discipline interfaces clear. Depending on the agreed scope, deliverables may include:

✔ A design basis and room requirement schedule

✔ Room layouts, personnel flows, and material flows

✔ Coordinated wall, ceiling, door, and service-opening layouts

✔ HVAC design criteria and equipment interface schedules

✔ Electrical load, utility demand, and monitoring-point schedules

✔ Drawings and specifications for review, procurement, or construction

The proposal defines which documents are included, their review stages, and the responsibilities of K-STONE, the client, and local specialists. For an integrated delivery scope, see our cleanroom EPC and turnkey engineering overview.

Cleanroom Design Questions

Design decisions depend on the process, site conditions, and applicable requirements. Confirm these before selecting materials or sizing systems.

Is cleanroom design the same as turnkey construction?

No. Design defines layouts, criteria, drawings, and interfaces. EPC or turnkey delivery may also include procurement, construction, testing, and handover, as agreed in the contract.

Can a design guarantee certification or regulatory approval?

No. Approval depends on the applicable requirements, the built facility, operating procedures, test results, and the responsible reviewing authority. Identify the required review and qualification activities in the project scope.

Can an existing building be converted into a cleanroom?

First review the available space, structural constraints, services, access routes, and process requirements. These findings determine the layout options and the upgrades to assess.

Our Design & Engineering Process

We understand that each project must meet stringent regulatory requirements across different countries, while also adapting to the specific operational needs of each client. The design scope identifies drawings, reviews and responsibility boundaries, with applicable requirements assessed for the intended process. Regulatory approval remains subject to the responsible reviewing authority.
